Prospector’s is located in Ely, which is one of the most remote cities in the US. At least 170 miles from any nearby cities, Ely has long served as a rest stop for travellers, from its early days as a stop of the Pony Express and stagecoach lines to the days of railroads dotting the frontier. Even today, because of a lack of convenience facilities along the highways in eastern Nevada, Ely is a traditional stopping point for road warriors.

A small gaming area near the hotel’s lobby is made up entirely of slot and video poker terminals, some twelve of each available at the time of this review. The selection is limited, but as is traditional in the state of Nevada, the hotel provides the service almost by rote. Additional video poker games can be found in the site’s bar.
A combination restaurant and bar, open from 6 AM to 9 PM year-round, serves traditional American roadhouse/diner food, including breakfast available at all hours of operation. The full-service bar inside the restaurant serves drinks and light snacks 24 hours a day. Since the bar and restaurant area is adjacent to the gaming floor, it’s clearly meant to be a refreshment area for casino customers.
