The Palomar Card Club is a typical California card room. The state of California doesn’t have much to offer in the way of legal gambling – state laws prohibit most commercial gaming operations and many private and social ones. The Palomar skirts those laws by offering only skill-based contests that are immune to the strict California laws.

Besides live poker games (and these are available in multiple variations at all hours of operation), the only gambles available at The Palomar are a handful of skill-based video poker-style machines in the lobby area, legal in the state of California because of their rules and payout schedule. The poker room itself is open from 3 PM to 2 AM most nights, with the ability to stay open a little later on tournament days because no alcohol is sold on the premises. The whole club is BYOB.
